    ***IMPORTANT ANNUAL MEETING UPDATE***

    March 22-26, 2006

    Palm Springs, California

    Dear SGO Members & Attendees:

I am sure that it comes as no surprise to you to learn that the
New Orleans Convention Center has cancelled all citywide conventions through March 31, 2006.

SGO leadership and staff have reacted quickly to secure new convention space at the
Palm Springs Convention Center (www.palmspringscc.com). This has necessitated a change in dates. The new dates are Wednesday, March 22-Sunday, March 26, 2006. Postgraduate courses will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, and we will convene the scientific sessions on Thursday around noon. We believe that this new day rotation, while requiring the same number of weekdays away from your practice, may allow more members to hear all the scientific presentations since the majority of the abstracts will be delivered during the weekend.

During the past two Council meetings, there was discussion of the need to move the SGO meeting into a small convention center due to the growing size of the meeting.
Palm Springs provides us with an ideal opportunity to launch this new model, with a variety of hotel accommodations at a variety of rates within walking distance.

For those of you unfamiliar with the
Palm Springs area, it offers a unique combination of small town comfort with big-city amenities. The Convention Center is located in the heart of the city at the base of Mt. San Jacinto, five minutes from the Palm Springs International Airport with direct airline service from most U.S. major cities.

Please also note that we have extended the due date for abstracts. The new deadline for abstracts is
October 10, 2005. We hope that the additional weekend for preparation will be beneficial to you.

We will provide continued updates about the meeting during the next month as the Program Committee completes the revised schedule for postgraduate courses.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Jeff Fowler or
Mary Eiken. I am pleased we were able to secure a new location for the meeting in a timely manner. While our thoughts and prayers remain with those along the Gulf Coast, I know you agree with me that the SGO Annual Meeting is the cornerstone of the organization, and it is vital that the meeting and the science move forward.

    Sincerely,

    Beth Y. Karlen, MD
    President
